Hydrodynamic interactions and extreme particle clustering in turbulence

چکیده
From new detailed experimental data, we found that the Radial Distribution Function (RDF) of inertial particles in turbulence grows explosively with $r^{-6}$ scaling as collision radius is approached. We corrected a theory by Yavuz et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 244504 (2018)) based on hydrodynamic interactions between pairs weakly particles, and demonstrate even this cannot explain observed RDF behavior. explore several alternative mechanisms for discrepancy were not included show none them are likely explanation, suggesting new, yet to be identified physical at play.

Hydrodynamic interactions in dissipative particle dynamics
Dissipative particle dynamics !DPD" has recently attracted great interest due to its potential to simulate the dynamics of colloidal particles in fluidic devices. In this work, we explore the validity of DPD to reproduce the hydrodynamic interaction between a suspended particle and confining solid walls. We first show that a relatively large Schmidt number of the DPD fluid can be obtained by in...
متن کاملCFB reactors , CFD and particle / turbulence interactions
The design of furnaces and boilers for solid fuels is supported increasingly by powerful softwares and ever faster computers. A round-robin over the most important CFD (computational fluid mechanics) models and softwares currently available shows, however, that numerical procedures for particle/turbulence interactions are not (yet) very advanced. Particle/fluid interphase slip is considered, bu...
متن کاملCharacterization of Flow- Magnetic Field Interactions in Magneto-Hydrodynamic Turbulence
We examine the complex nonlinear flow-magnetic field dynamics in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. Using direct numerical simulations (DNS), we investigate the dynamical interactions subject to the influence of a uniform applied background magnetic field. The initial magnetic and kinetic Reynolds numbers (based on Taylor microscale) are 45 and there are no initial magnetic field fluctuation...
متن کاملSuperstatistics in hydrodynamic turbulence
Superstatistics is a ‘statistics of a statistics’ relevant for driven nonequilibrium systems with fluctuating intensive parameters. It contains Tsallis statistics as a special case. We show that probability density functions of velocity differences and accelerations measured in Eulerian and Lagrangian turbulence experiments are well reproduced by simple superstatistics models. We compare fits o...
متن کاملSweep-stick mechanism of heavy particle clustering in fluid turbulence.
It is proposed that the inertial range clustering of small heavy particles in fluid turbulence occurs as a result of the sweep-stick mechanism which causes inertial particles to cluster so as to mimic the clusters of points where the fluid acceleration is perpendicular to the direction of highest contraction between neighboring particles. Direct numerical simulations of inertial particles subje...
